とても個人的なことからの出発。
10歳の時，私は父の机の引き出しに入っていた小さな人形を見つけた。その人形は，戦時中の慰問袋に入って，戦地の父のところに届いたものであり，その後，ずっと父の心の支えとなっていたものであった。その時から，人形は私にとって特別な意味を持つようになり，見よう見まねで人形作りが始まった。
人形は，玩具ではない。人形ほど，「私」自身を理解してくれるものはない。いつも人の傍らにひっそりと寄り添ってくれる祈りの存在でもある。
私は，エゴン・シーレ作品に初めて接したとき，これが絵画であるということさえ，まったく忘れ，私自身のように感じ，生きるのが苦しかった青春時代がよみがえってくるのを感じた。まるで「私」自身を理解してくれる人形のように。そうして，私のシーレ人形作りは始まった。
私はシーレのすべてを知りたくて、ウィーン、トゥルン（シーレの生誕地）、チェスキー・クルムロフ（シーレの母マリーの出身地、シーレは風景画を数多く描いている）など，アトリエ跡、お墓、美術館など熱い思いで歩き回り、無我夢中でシーレ人形を作り続け、作品数は大小あわせて100点を超えた。
多くのひとたちのご協力、ご声援のおかげで、夢であったチェスキークルムロフ エゴン・シーレアートセンターでの『エゴン・シーレ没後100年宮崎郁子展』（２０１８年６月～２０１９年１月）も実現できた。ここからが私の人生の本当のスタートなのだろうと確信している。

Departure from something very personal.
I was ten when I found a little doll in my father’s desk drawer. The doll had been inside a comfort bag distributed in the warzone where my father had been fighting in the Second World War, and it had remained a psychological crutch to him ever since. From that time onwards, dolls came to hold a special meaning for me and I begun making them, learning by imitating others.
Dolls are not playthings. There is nothing that understands the true self so well as dolls can. They are precious things that always manage to sn eak up close beside us.
When I first encountered the works of Egon Schiele, I forgot that they were paintings at all. The works seemed to me like a part of my own self, and the days of my adolescence when living felt like a trial came rushing back to me. In that sense, the works were just like dolls, who understood me for who I was. It was then that I began creating my Schiele dolls.
In the desire to know everything there is to know about Schiele, I have visited Vienna; Tulln, his birthplace; and Cesky Krumlov, the place where his mother Marie was born and where Schiele painted many landscapes. On foot, I have traced what remains of his studios, walking around graveyards and various museums. I have immersed myself in making dolls based on Schiele’s works, of which I have now produced over 100 of various sizes.
Thanks to the cooperation and encouragement of many people, “The 100th Anniversary of Egon Schiele’s Death: Ikuko Miyazaki Exhibition” (June 2018-January 2019) at Egon Schiele Art Center in Cesky Krumlov was also realized. I am convinced that this is the real start of my life.(Translated by Polly Barton)
