水の音が走る夕刻

春なのに暑い日、まとうものを脱ぎ捨てたくなった。

真っ白で良質な雲。青い輪郭の空。
さらさらと涼しげな水の音が走る。
水の走りが土の臭いを舞い上げ、緑をもうもうと放つ。
音と匂い。見えないけれど生き物の姿を連想させる。

ものごととものごとの間を埋める、言葉と感覚がある。
感覚とは曖昧なものに違いないが感じることは確かにあって、
それらをないということにはできない。
感覚の発現は形あるものと同等に世界を作り上げている。
私は今を見回し、言葉を発するように絵を描いてみることにした。
たとえば今日という日に見えるうつくしい想像。
見えないけれど気配を感じるということ。
あとは、小さな怒りと大きな愛の感覚を。

暗くなっても水の音はゆるまず走り、うごめきは静かだが止まらない。
まとうものはもう捨ててしまった。
今日がよくわからないまま呆気なく終わったことも嫌ではなく、
なにか満たされる予感さえする。
得ることだけがすべてじゃない。
だけど歓びもすぐにやってくるだろう。
私たちの中にあるうつくしいものをいつでも思い出せるようになれれば。

I hear the river flowing at day’s end.

On one hot spring day, I felt like shedding all that I was clad in.

Pure white, fine-looking clouds. The sky with blue contours.
Refreshing sounds of water murmuring.
The water flows as it releases the fragrance of soil, with the greenery growing thick and lush.
The sounds and scents—those not visible to the eye can evoke the appearances of life forms.

Words and senses can fill the gaps between one matter and another.
Senses are essentially vague, but we definitely sense things;
Hence, we cannot deny that they exist.
Expressions deriving from our senses make up the world on the same level as objects that have forms.

I decided to look around to the “now” and to depict my painting as if I were uttering words.
For instance, to express beautiful images that I perceive “today,”
Or the presences that I feel.
And to give forms to my trivial feelings of anger and my strong sense of love.

The sound of water continues to flow into the night—its motion quiet but ceaseless.
I have already abandoned all that I was clad in.
I rather like “today” that just idly passes by;
I even sense that something fulfilling is on its way.
Just gaining something is not everything.
If we are able to always remember the beautiful things we have within us,
Joy will be here in no time.
