“Today, When Stories Have Become Saturated—The Omnipresence of the World View”

Individuals yearn to live out their own lives, while also shouldering the fate of humanity as a species. Primal landscapes and the emotions that humans possess, which have been pushed far away from what is considered the ideal of independent individuals, seem to have overflowed from a Pandora’s box and gone astray. Civilization repeats cycles of well-adjusted and chaotic states, while also creating an inseparable connection with time-space. How are the countless questions that swirl within our civilization manifested in the present day?

In the course of my continuing to create installations and drawings, I came to focus on the question, “What kind of relationships do people create with a space, in order to forge their own images of the world?” My exploration into how allegories, which were orally transmitted during the preliterate age, are manifested in today’s images of the world steered me toward producing video works.

Today, people largely rely on moving-image and still-image information in recognizing things. Image understanding is a recognition method that we obtain at an early stage of human development. I began this series by posting the images of “pictures” I produced via social media. As a rule, I decided that the painting materials and methods I would adopt would not be consistent, and that I would post works even if I regarded them as failures. The viewers have posted various messages about the images of my “pictures.” And those who would not otherwise talk to one another at my exhibition venues are stating their freewheeling ideas that they perceived from my “pictures” in a written form, as well as interacting without any hesitation. Without my being aware, this activity was embedded within my daily life as Ms. Piece. The fragmental pieces of paper that I refer to as Ms. Piece sometimes make their actual appearances in exhibitions. This experimental ongoing series, which began in 2011 and has continued up to the present day, is positioned along the lines of installation, moving image, and the transformation of bodily sensations. As we stand at the turning point of “written” expression, a central force in culture and civilization, I find that my works are omnipresent on the Internet, which has spread across the bottom of art, despite the fact that art itself has not yet truly penetrated our world.

Every night before I fall asleep, I deliver a piece of work as a gift to the Internet, which continues to tell stories, while also abandoning those who have passed on—my piece of work shows the evidence and confession of the living being.
